The 2016 Vintage

This vintage will go down as the warmest, and the earliest, growing season in recorded history in the Willamette Valley.  Moderate temperatures all spring led to ideal growing conditions throughout the summer.  This put very little pressure on the vines, producing grapes with nicely balanced chemistry at harvest time.  After a very high quality vintage like 2014 and 2015, this vintage was just as wonderful for everyone in the valley.  The warm days continued into the third week of September which allowed extended hang times with very ripe fruit.  Yields were up and the fruit arrived in immaculate condition to the winery with very little need for extensive hand sorting on the crush line.

The Wine

The 2016 Timothy is a blend of both Fairsing Vineyard and Yates Conwill Vineyard.  It's made up from Wadenswil, Pommard and Dijon clone 777.  The Yates Conwill is dark, concentrated, and fleshy while the Fairsing is bright, spicy, with dark fruits.  Both of these vineyards will bring together elements from the best of both ends of the Pinot flavor spectrum for a truly balanced wine.  All barrels are French oak with about 30% of them new.

Reviews of Timothy Pinot Noir from previous vintages:

WildAire – Pinot Noir – Willamette Valley – Timothy – 2014 – 93 points | 240 cases made |  Wine Enthusiast

Scented with crushed raspberries, this exceptional value carries that same intensity and freshness etched deeply into the palate. Some darker fruits hang around the perimeter, as the wine lingers through a graceful, slightly warm finish.  Residual hints of sea-salt caramel wrap it up nicely. Editors’ Choice. —P.G.

WildAire – Pinot Noir – Willamette Valley – Timothy – 2012 – 93 points | 260 cases made |  Wine Spectator

Focused, expressive, deep, dark and generous, with a mouthful of black licorice–accented blackberry and currant flavors that jet through a lithe, deftly balanced and long finish. The fine tannins stay out of the way. Drink now through 2022.—H.S.

WildAire – Pinot Noir – Willamette Valley – Timothy – 2011 – 90 points | 400 cases made |  Wine Spectator

Sleek and refined, with pretty cherry, spice and loamy earth flavors set on a narrow-gauge frame, lingering intently.
Drink now through 2017.
